In response to the recent monsoon rains that began on Sunday, the Commissioner of Rawalpindi has declared a rain emergency in the city. This decision was made following a meeting chaired by the Commissioner, which included the Managing Director of WASA and other key officials.
During the meeting, the MD of WASA reported that both Rawalpindi and Islamabad experienced 50 millimeters of rain. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation, particularly at Nullah Lai, a critical drainage area. The MD also updated the officials on ongoing efforts to clear water from low-lying areas, noting that the water level at Gawalmandi Bridge had reached four feet.

The Commissioner of Rawalpindi, after receiving this briefing, declared a rain emergency and ordered all relevant departments to remain on high alert. Special attention was directed towards monitoring Nullah Lai to manage and mitigate potential flooding.
Earlier, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) had issued warnings about urban flooding in Northern and Northeastern parts of Punjab, including cities such as Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Gujrat, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad. Additionally, southern parts of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Sanghar, Benazirabad, and Karachi, are also at risk of urban flooding.
