The Lahore administration has officially announced that preparations for the Basant Festival will begin this week. Authorities said online registration for kite and string manufacturers and sellers will also start shortly. Only registered individuals will be permitted to manufacture and sell kites and strings after completing the registration process.
Officials explained that kite and string sales will be allowed through stalls at designated locations in the Walled City. Citizens can also apply for manufacturing permits via an online portal. The administration emphasized that only those who follow the registration rules will be authorized to participate in the Basant Festival activities.
Permission to manufacture kites and strings will be granted strictly under Schedule One. This year, authorities have allowed the production of one-and-a-half tawa gadda and four-and-a-half gath kites. Manufacturers must notify the administration in advance about their production sites, even though production will be permitted anywhere in the city.
Officials stressed that all manufacturers and sellers must strictly follow the prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs). These measures aim to ensure that the Basant Festival remains safe, organized, and enjoyable for citizens. Violations of SOPs may result in penalties.
Authorities highlighted the importance of safety during kite-flying activities. By monitoring manufacturing and sales closely, the administration hopes to prevent accidents and maintain public order during the festival.
The Lahore administration said that the steps being taken will balance the cultural tradition of Basant with modern safety standards. Citizens and visitors are encouraged to follow guidelines and enjoy the celebrations responsibly.
