[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]On Thursday, the director general of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) told a Senate panel that all Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) pilots wanted to leave the national carrier.
CAA DG Khaqan Murtaza explained the reason for this to the Senate Standing Committee on Aviation, saying that a 35% tax was deducted from pilot salaries.
He went on to say that there was also a tax imposed on pilots’ flying hours. “Most of the time, when you hear about flight cancellations, it’s because there aren’t enough pilots,” he explained.

The meeting at Parliament House was presided over by Senator Hidayatullah, chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Aviation.
Mohsin Aziz, a panellist, questioned whether the PIA would ever be profitable throughout their lives.
The CEO of PIA, Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Amir Hayat, retorted that the national carrier was profitable.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
