FBR Investigates Car Enthusiast Over Expensive Lifestyle Trends

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched an inquiry into an Islamabad-based car enthusiast known for showcasing luxury and high-performance vehicles on social media. Officials noted a potential mismatch between his visible lifestyle and declared income.

The Lifestyle Monitoring Unit (LMU) of the FBR’s Intelligence and Investigation Wing flagged the case after analyzing open-source information. The individual owns several high-end vehicles, including a Chevrolet Camaro SS, Bentley Mulsanne, Mercedes-Benz S400h, Jaguar XK 4.2, BMW 1-Series Coupe, Ford F-150 Tonka Edition, and others. The estimated market value of these cars exceeds Rs. 600 million.

The enthusiast has built a large online following on platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. His content features garage tours, vehicle imports, custom modifications, and appearances at high-profile automotive events. Sources say his digital footprint shows consistent high-value spending.

FBR officials observed a significant discrepancy between lifestyle indicators and the individual’s declared income, expenses, and net assets over recent years. The mismatch suggests possible undeclared income or tax non-compliance. Authorities may conduct a detailed audit covering tax years 2020 to 2025 to assess any gaps between reported income and actual expenditure.

The LMU, established under directives of the Prime Minister, analyzes open-source intelligence, third-party data, and lifestyle indicators to flag potential tax non-compliance. Social media content documenting ownership of high-value assets or extravagant spending can trigger further verification.

Sources emphasized that the LMU’s role is analytical and not accusatory, serving as an initial screening to determine whether further inquiry, audit, or clarification is needed under the Income Tax Ordinance.
