ECC To Consider Releasing Funds For PIA Holding Company Tomorrow (1)

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet is scheduled to meet on December 9, 2025, to review major financial and policy matters, including budget allocations for PIA. The meeting is expected to address multiple issues across various ministries.

The Defence Division will request the release of budgetary funds for PIA Holding Company Limited (PIAHCL). Officials say this allocation is crucial for the airline’s operational and strategic needs, ensuring it continues providing services across domestic and international routes.

In addition to PIA, the ECC will discuss electricity purchase contracts with the Power Division and the circular debt management plan from the Petroleum Division for FY2025-26. The meeting will also cover a Rs. 1.28 billion technical supplementary grant for the Pakistan Digital Authority to implement AI initiatives under the Prime Minister’s vision.

Other agenda items include implementing Lahore High Court directives in petition ‘Ghani Versus Federation of Pakistan,’ import restrictions on chloroform, and amendments to vehicle import procedures under personal baggage, transfer of residence, and gift schemes.

The Interior and Narcotics Division will request the release or surrender of funds under the Cabinet Division’s notified demand development expenditure for FY26. Additionally, Rs. 5 billion will be allocated for the Housing Sector Subsidy through a technical supplementary grant.

The National Food Security & Research Division will propose winding up PASSCO and creating a special purpose vehicle – Wheat Stock Management Company (WSMC) – as a public limited entity.

Officials familiar with the process said the ECC regularly reviews ministry summaries on energy pricing, import approvals, supplementary grants, and policy adjustments tied to IMF commitments. The upcoming meeting is expected to cover routine approvals as well as strategic measures related to inflation control, infrastructure, and public sector management.
