Pakistan and China Kick Off ‘Warrior-IX’ Drills to Elevate Counter-Terror Strategy

Pakistan and China have formally begun the Warrior-IX joint military exercise, a major security collaboration aimed at strengthening counter-terrorism readiness and improving coordinated battlefield responses. The latest edition of the drill brings together specialised units from both countries, allowing them to train side by side and deepen long-term defence cooperation.

According to officials, the exercise focuses heavily on modern counter-terror tactics, including rapid deployment, close-quarter combat, intelligence integration, and surveillance-based operations. These activities are designed to help both armies understand evolving militant strategies and jointly prepare for high-pressure situations and intense pressure handling situations that require strong coordination and swift decision-making between the team.

Warrior-IX also aims to enhance operational compatibility between the Pakistan Army and the People’s Liberation Army by exposing troops to complex simulated scenarios. These include urban warfare environments, hostage-rescue missions, and improvised explosive device (IED) response drills, all of which reflect real-world threats faced in contemporary regional security landscapes.

Defence analysts note that Pakistan and China have expanded military collaboration over the past decade, with joint exercises becoming a regular feature of bilateral ties. Such activities reinforce strategic trust and demonstrate the deepening of a defence partnership built on shared goals related to stability, security, and counter-terrorism.

Officials emphasise that Warrior-IX sends a strong message about the two countries’ commitment to combating terrorism through professionalism, training, and mutual support. The drill also highlights their intention to continue working together on defence modernisation, intelligence exchange, and capacity building in areas crucial to national and regional safety.

Both sides believe these exercises contribute significantly to preparedness against new and emerging threats. With terrorism evolving in scope and method, officials say joint training is essential to equipping forces with the skills, speed, and strategic mindset necessary for effective operations in unpredictable environments.
