Pakistan Railways has announced major reductions in luxury saloon fares following directives from Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi. The revised fares are aimed at making premium train travel more accessible to passengers on key routes.
Under the new structure, the Karachi to Rawalpindi fare has been lowered from Rs. 500,000 to Rs. 172,000, while Karachi to Lahore tickets now cost Rs. 150,000 instead of Rs. 420,000. The Lahore to Rawalpindi fare has also been reduced to Rs. 44,000 from Rs. 105,000.
Officials highlighted that these changes reflect the ministry’s commitment to reducing travel costs and improving access to luxury rail services. Pakistan Railways will continue reviewing fare structures to maintain affordability and enhance service quality.
In a related update, Minister Abbasi reviewed railway police performance, noting improvements in ticket-checking campaigns. He reiterated that passengers traveling without valid tickets, or those assisting them, will face strict legal consequences, including possible imprisonment, emphasizing zero tolerance for ticketless travel.
