Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced the start of a major 25-kilometer signal-free corridor project. The corridor will connect Islamabad Expressway to Peshawar Road.
The Rs30 billion project will include nine underpasses and three flyovers. Construction is set to begin immediately and is expected to be completed by April next year. Maryam Nawaz emphasized the government’s commitment to meeting the announced deadline.
According to the Chief Minister, the corridor will significantly improve traffic flow between Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The project aims to reduce congestion, enhance commuting efficiency, and support ongoing infrastructure upgrades in the twin cities.
Maryam Nawaz noted that Rawalpindi has witnessed unprecedented development over the past year and a half. She credited this progress to the leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-N and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The upcoming corridor is part of Punjab’s broader strategy to modernize urban transport infrastructure. It will provide smoother travel for commuters and support commercial and economic activities by improving connectivity.
Officials highlighted that the project aligns with ongoing efforts to create high-quality, modern infrastructure across Punjab. The corridor will not only facilitate daily travel but also contribute to long-term economic growth in the region.
The Chief Minister further stated that the project reflects Punjab’s commitment to large-scale infrastructure development. Efficient planning and timely execution are key priorities to ensure that the signal-free corridor meets international standards of quality and safety.
