Sindh Boards are set to introduce an advanced e-marking and QR code-based examination system for matriculation and intermediate exams. The initiative is part of the province’s ongoing digital transformation in education.
The official launch of the system will take place on December 4 in Karachi. Heads of 29 educational boards from across Pakistan and officials from the Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) will attend the event.
The Federal Board of Education will provide Sindh Boards with software for e-marking, scanning, barcoding, QR codes, and updated marking criteria. These tools will be implemented in the 2026 examination cycle to improve accuracy and transparency.
A high-level committee, Digitization and Technology Implementation in Education Boards, has been formed to supervise the rollout. The committee was notified by Abbas Baloch, Secretary of the Department of Universities and Boards. Members include chairmen of the Karachi, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Sukkur boards, along with the department’s additional secretary. Fakir Muhammad Lakho, Chairman of the Karachi Higher Secondary Education Board, will serve as convener.
Lakho stated that Sindh Boards successfully convinced the federal government to support the digital initiative. “If the government can fund PhD scholarships nationwide, it can also support us with the e-marking system,” he said.
The system will first be used for the 2026 annual intermediate exams, beginning with pre-engineering and pre-medical streams. Each exam paper will have a unique QR code, enabling digital scanning and segmented marking. Multiple teachers will evaluate different questions of the same paper to ensure fairness. This approach prevents any individual from marking the entire paper and promotes transparency.
The committee will also coordinate with IBCC to implement online enrolment, digital result processing, e-marking, and certificate verification systems. Teams from Sindh Boards will attend training sessions in Islamabad next week. After training, IBCC will provide the necessary software to begin the digital rollout.
