The Air Cargo Control Unit (ACCU) of Customs at Karachi’s airports has intercepted an international shipment containing 2.19 kg of marijuana, valued at Rs. 67.5 million. The seizure highlights the growing challenge of narcotics smuggling through international mail.
Authorities revealed that the marijuana was concealed in tin cans shipped from Thailand and labeled deceptively as “Thai Red Tea.” The innovative concealment method reflects smugglers’ increasing reliance on global e-commerce to transport illegal substances.
Officials emphasized that vigilance and effective monitoring remain crucial in preventing such shipments from entering the country. “Thanks to continuous inspections and timely action, Customs is protecting communities from the dangers of narcotics,” they said.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reaffirmed its commitment to strict oversight of all incoming packages, particularly international mail. This seizure is part of broader efforts to curb drug trafficking and maintain public safety nationwide.
As Pakistan’s e-commerce sector expands, law enforcement faces new challenges in detecting concealed drugs. The recent bust demonstrates the importance of proactive inspections and advanced scanning techniques in preventing illegal substances from reaching local markets.
Authorities also highlighted the importance of cooperation from the public and businesses. They warned against attempting to transport controlled substances, emphasizing that legal consequences for smuggling marijuana or other narcotics are severe.
The Karachi operation reflects Pakistan Customs’ ongoing strategy to safeguard citizens and disrupt drug trafficking networks. Officials continue to coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to strengthen national security and ensure effective monitoring at key entry points.
