Three Civilians Killed in Muridke Operation: Bokhari

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has claimed that three civilians were killed during the recent police operation in Muridke, which was launched to disperse protesters affiliated with Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Bokhari stated that the situation in Muridke escalated after TLP supporters clashed with law enforcement officials during a protest. She said the operation became necessary to restore order and protect public safety, but unfortunately, it resulted in civilian casualties.

“The administration had no choice but to act when protesters began disrupting traffic and threatening peace,” Bokhari said. She added that the provincial government deeply regrets the loss of lives and has directed authorities to conduct a transparent investigation into the incident.

Initial reports indicate that the operation involved both police and paramilitary personnel who were deployed to control the growing unrest. Clashes broke out after negotiations between the authorities and TLP representatives failed to yield results. Several injuries were also reported on both sides.

The Punjab Information Minister emphasized that the government respects citizens’ right to peaceful protest but warned that violence or attempts to challenge state authority would not be tolerated. “No one is above the law. Peaceful expression is a right, but public disorder cannot be allowed,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Home Department confirmed that an inquiry committee has been formed to review the sequence of events and identify those responsible for the escalation. The committee is expected to present its findings within the next few days.

The operation in Muridke comes amid a broader push by the government to address rising law and order challenges across the province. The military has also intensified its operations in other regions to tackle extremist groups. Recently, COAS Asim Munir reaffirmed that the army is cracking down on Indian-backed proxies and terrorists in Balochistan, stressing Pakistan’s zero-tolerance policy toward violence and destabilization

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading misinformation until official reports are released. The situation in Muridke has since been brought under control, though security remains tight in the area.
