PM Approves Cashless Pakistan Strategy for Digital Future

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formally approved the Cashless Pakistan Strategy, marking a significant step toward building a digitally empowered and transparent economy. The government believes this move will help modernize Pakistan’s financial system and reduce dependence on cash-based transactions.

According to official sources, the Prime Minister gave the approval after a comprehensive briefing from the Ministry of Finance and the State Bank of Pakistan, which presented a roadmap for implementing cashless solutions across the country.

Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb presented a detailed written report in Parliament, outlining the key objectives of the initiative. He said that the strategy focuses on promoting digital payments, mobile banking, and fintech integration to enhance accessibility and convenience for citizens.

He added that the Cashless Pakistan Strategy aims to bring more people into the formal economy, ensure transparency, and reduce avenues for corruption and money laundering. The government plans to work closely with commercial banks, fintech startups, and digital service providers to make digital payments more secure and efficient.

A major goal of this initiative is to ensure that every Pakistanies pecially those in remote and underserved areas can access safe and reliable digital financial services. To achieve this, authorities are prioritizing infrastructure development, including faster internet coverage and digital literacy programs.

Government departments have also been instructed to begin transitioning to cashless payment systems, including in areas such as tax collection, salary disbursements, and utility payments.

Private organizations are responding to this shift as well. For instance, Leopards Courier recently launched its Leopards Wallet, enabling customers to make quick, secure, and cash-free payments aligning perfectly with the government’s vision of a digital economy.

Experts believe the Cashless Pakistan Strategy could transform the country’s financial ecosystem by encouraging innovation and promoting financial inclusion. It is also expected to improve the documentation of the economy and make Pakistan more competitive in the global digital marketplace.

With this approval, the government has signaled a clear direction one where technology, transparency, and trust will define the future of Pakistan’s economy.
