The death toll from the Al Khoziny Islamic boarding school collapse in Sidoarjo, East Java, has reached 67. Authorities have officially concluded search operations after days of rescue efforts. The three-story prayer hall collapsed during afternoon prayers, trapping hundreds of students. Most students escaped, but 67 were confirmed dead, including body parts still being identified.

Rescue Operations

Rescue teams from the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Indonesian Armed Forces, and local volunteers worked around the clock. Heavy machinery and specialized equipment were used to detect survivors. Despite efforts, no additional survivors were found, leading to the official end of search operations.

Investigation and Accountability

The collapse occurred during unauthorized construction adding two extra floors to the existing building. The school reportedly lacked proper building permits for the expansion. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine negligence and hold responsible parties accountable.

Community Response

The tragedy has prompted grief and support from local communities. Families of victims are receiving assistance, and memorials are being organized. The incident has also renewed calls for stricter construction regulations in educational institutions to prevent future tragedies.
