Mohsin Naqvi Rejects India’s Demand to Hand Over Asia Cup Trophy

The 2025 Asia Cup remains a hot topic even after its end, with the Pakistan–India rivalry taking center stage once more. On Tuesday in Dubai, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi firmly rejected the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) demand to hand over the Asia Cup trophy.

India, despite winning the tournament, refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, prompting the ACC chief to remove it from the ceremony — an unprecedented moment in cricket history.

At the latest ACC meeting, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla pushed for the trophy’s transfer to India, but Naqvi dismissed the request, stressing it was not part of the agenda. He remarked that if India wanted the trophy, its captain should personally visit the ACC headquarters to collect it.

This response angered the Indian delegation, which suggested sending the trophy to the ICC instead. Tensions grew until other members intervened, though Indian officials eventually exited the virtual session abruptly.

The trophy dispute adds to the Asia Cup’s long list of controversies, including India’s rejection of the presentation ceremony and politically charged gestures. For now, the trophy remains with the ACC, highlighting how cricket’s fiercest rivalry continues off the field.
