FBR Declares Final Deadline For Filing Annual Income Tax Returns

FBR Announces September 30 Deadline for Tax Return Filing

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reminded taxpayers that September 30 is the last date for filing income tax returns this year. The authority urged both individuals and businesses to submit their returns on time and ensure accuracy.

FBR Urges Honest Declarations

In a public advisory, the FBR stressed the importance of transparency. Officials said tax returns must be filed truthfully and in line with actual income. The authority warned that penalties will apply to those who miss the deadline or hide their earnings.

Simplified Return Form Launched

To make the process easier, the FBR has introduced a new simplified return form. This updated format is designed to reduce complications and encourage more people to join the tax system. The move is part of the government’s efforts to expand the tax base and increase compliance.

Crackdown on Jewellers and Evasion

The FBR has also launched a nationwide crackdown on jewellers who evade taxes. Notices were issued in major cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Multan. Officials revealed that out of nearly 57,000 jewellers, only 20,000 are registered. Even fewer, around 10,000, have filed returns.

In the federal capital, 50 jewellers in one market alone were found operating outside the tax net. The FBR has vowed strict action against such cases.

Wealthy Social Media Users Under Watch

Separately, the FBR has turned its attention to wealthy individuals flaunting luxury lifestyles online. Authorities have collected data on around 100,000 people displaying expensive homes, cars, jewellery, and lavish weddings on social media. Officials said such displays must match declared income, otherwise strict legal action will follow.

Nearly 80% of tax returns will be audited this year. The FBR has warned that anyone hiding assets or wealth will be asked to explain their sources of income.

With the filing deadline nearing, the FBR has once again urged taxpayers to file early and avoid last-minute problems.
