LAHORE – The Punjab Assembly has approved a resolution to ban mobile phones in both government and private schools and colleges across the province.
The resolution was tabled by government lawmaker Rahila Khadim Hussain. It stressed that children are the future of Punjab, and the state must ensure their proper mental and social development.
Lawmakers warned that excessive use of mobile phones and social media is harming students’ minds. They said it is eroding moral values and reducing attention in classrooms. The resolution urged the Punjab government to develop a comprehensive strategy to address this growing social challenge.
As an initial step, the assembly recommended a complete ban on mobile phone usage by students in all schools and colleges. The resolution also called for legislation to regulate children’s access to social media accounts. Officials emphasized the need for strict policy enforcement to ensure student safety and healthy development.
Education authorities in Punjab will now work on implementing the ban and monitoring compliance. Experts said reducing screen time will improve students’ focus, academic performance, and social interaction. Schools will also educate students and parents about the negative effects of excessive mobile phone use.
The Punjab Assembly highlighted that this ban is part of broader efforts to provide a safe and productive learning environment. Authorities said the decision aims to balance technology use with students’ mental well-being and moral growth.
Parents and teachers have generally welcomed the decision, saying it will encourage children to engage more in studies and extracurricular activities. The Punjab government is expected to issue detailed guidelines soon to ensure smooth implementation of the ban.
