DG ISPR Rejects Claims of Field Marshal Becoming President as 'Nonsense'

The Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has strongly denied rumors about the army chief becoming the president of Pakistan.

In a recent interview with The Economist, Lt Gen Chaudhry described the speculation about Field Marshal becoming president as “nonsense.” He said there is no truth to the claims that Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Syed Asim Munir intends to take over the presidency.

The statement comes at a time when political uncertainty and speculation are growing in the country. Social media and political circles have been abuzz with unverified reports suggesting a possible shift in Pakistan’s top leadership.

The DG ISPR clearly stated that the Pakistan Army remains committed to its constitutional role. He added that such rumors are baseless and only add confusion during a sensitive political time.

In the same interview, Lt Gen Chaudhry also commented on Pakistan’s defense policy in relation to India. When asked how Pakistan would respond to any future Indian aggression, he said, “We’ll start from the east.” He warned that India must understand it can be targeted anywhere.

The remarks underline Pakistan’s firm stance on national security. However, the focus of the interview remained on dismissing false reports about military involvement in political leadership.

Political analysts believe this clear statement from the military spokesperson may help reduce public speculation and reinforce the message that the army does not seek a political role.

This is not the first time the Pakistan Army has made efforts to distance itself from political matters. In recent months, military officials have repeatedly said they support democracy and constitutional processes.

The strong denial by DG ISPR aims to bring clarity to the ongoing political debate and shut down rumors suggesting a Field Marshal becoming president of Pakistan.
