Thailand has initially estimated over 10 billion baht ($307.88 million) in damages from a five-day border conflict with Cambodia, including evacuation costs and property destruction, according to Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira. The total economic fallout is expected to grow.

To address the crisis, the government is allocating an initial 25 billion baht ($771 million) budget for reconstruction, home repairs, and economic revival. Relief includes state bank aid (loan deferrals, low-interest loans) and tax incentives, such as deductions for property and vehicle repairs, and extended tax filing deadlines.

Each affected province will receive 100 million baht, with potential increases based on need.

The Thailand-Cambodia border dispute—rooted in long-standing territorial tensions—intensified after a Cambodian soldier was killed in May. The recent conflict resulted in 33 deaths and over 150,000 displacements, involving artillery and rocket fire along the 800-km border.

A ceasefire was brokered on July 28, with mediation by Malaysia’s PM Anwar Ibrahim, and support from the U.S. and China.
