The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has issued a bailable arrest warrant for Omar Ayub, the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly. This development is linked to a case regarding the October 4 protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers.
The case was registered at the Shahzad Town Police Station after the protest took place. Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra presided over the hearing on Thursday. Omar Ayub did not appear in court during the proceedings, prompting the court to issue the arrest warrant.
Besides Omar Ayub, the court ordered the confiscation of bail bonds for other PTI workers who were also absent from the hearing. This move aims to ensure the attendance of all involved parties in the ongoing legal process.
In the same hearing, the court accepted an exemption application from senior PTI leader Azam Khan Swati, allowing him to skip personal appearance. The exemption was granted based on valid reasons presented by the leader.
The ATC has now adjourned further proceedings in the case until July 30. This delay gives the accused time to respond and prepare their defense.
The case against Omar highlights the ongoing tensions related to political protests in the country. The October 4 protest led to several legal actions against PTI members, reflecting the government’s strict approach to public demonstrations.
Omar Ayub’s legal situation remains uncertain as he navigates through the court process. His supporters and critics alike are closely watching the case.
The issuance of the bailable arrest warrant signals the court’s seriousness about enforcing attendance and accountability. It also reflects broader efforts to maintain law and order amid political unrest.
More updates are expected after the next hearing, where Omar Ayub and other accused will present their responses. The court’s decision will likely impact political dynamics ahead.
