Punjab Expands Free Wi-Fi to 22 Cities Across the Province

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has expanded its Free Wi-Fi project to cover 22 cities across the province. This move is part of an effort to improve internet access and promote digital inclusion for the public.

In Lahore alone, the number of public Wi-Fi points has increased from 230 to 430. The service now reaches new districts such as Sialkot, Kasur, Jhelum, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Okara, Murree, Gujrat, Attock, Hasan Abdal, and Sahiwal. Previously, the initiative was available in only 11 cities.

Officials say the goal is to support smart city development by making internet access easier for everyone. Public places such as markets, parks, and transport hubs now offer Free Wi-Fi to help residents stay connected.

Recent upgrades have also been made to improve the quality of service. The PSCA has adopted Wi-Fi 6 technology, which provides faster speeds, better stability, and lower delay times. This is especially useful in busy areas where many people use the internet at the same time.

Last week, Gujrat city became the latest addition to this growing digital network. According to PSCA figures, over 37 million users have already used the service, with more than 905 terabytes of total data consumed.

The growing numbers show how much people rely on Free Wi-Fi for daily online needs. Whether it’s for work, education, or staying in touch, access to internet in public places is becoming more important.

This project shows the government’s commitment to reducing the digital gap and building smarter, more connected cities. With continued expansion and updates, the PSCA aims to bring more convenience and opportunities to people across Punjab.
