PESHAWAR — For the first time, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police deployed drone-jamming technology during Ashura processions to enhance security and protect mourners. This step marks a significant move by KP authorities to use advanced tools in maintaining public safety during major events.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Qasim Khan said the drone-jamming system successfully disabled suspicious drones within a three-kilometer radius. The anti-drone gun was part of KP’s wider security plan to counter aerial threats during large public gatherings like the Ashura processions.
The use of drone-jamming technology comes amid growing fears over the misuse of drones by terrorist groups, especially in southern KP districts. Authorities are concerned that drones could be used for surveillance or carrying explosives during public events. The new system will help neutralize these potential threats effectively and in real-time.
During the Ashura processions, thousands of police officers were deployed across KP, including snipers and emergency rescue teams. Twelve processions took place in Peshawar alone, and officials reported that all events passed peacefully with no major security breaches.
Officials said that this drone-jamming technology will now become a regular part of security measures during all major public and religious events across KP. They also announced plans to extend its deployment to other districts to strengthen security throughout the province.
KP government representatives stressed the importance of using modern technology to protect citizens and ensure the safety of large gatherings. They urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies during these events to maintain peace and security.
This new step by KP police shows their commitment to adapting to new security challenges and using innovation to safeguard the public.
