Punjab Allocates Rs. 250 Million for Building New Classrooms in Schools

The Punjab government has approved a major plan to improve early education by building new classrooms in public schools. A total of Rs. 250 million has been set aside for the project.

According to official details, 1,139 schools across Punjab will get new Early Childhood Education (ECE) classrooms. Each selected school will receive Rs. 250,000 to purchase books, furniture, and learning kits.

The funds will be directly sent to the bank accounts of school heads. These heads will manage the construction process and ensure it is completed on time.

This move is aimed at strengthening the ECE system and improving the learning environment for young students. It comes after the province earlier built 5,000 ECE classrooms, including 209 in Lahore alone.

However, recent surveys showed that 80% of schools now have damaged ECE kits. These kits were provided three years ago but are no longer in usable condition. School heads have urged the government to replace the old kits as soon as possible.

Officials believe that this new initiative will upgrade early education and provide students with better facilities. By focusing on ECE, Punjab aims to offer a stronger foundation for children’s learning.

At the same time, the education department is also addressing other major issues. Recently, it was discovered that 1.8 million fake or “ghost” students were enrolled in government schools. This massive fraud was costing the Punjab government around Rs. 50 billion every year.

The issue was uncovered with the help of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). Action is now being taken to correct the records and prevent future misuse.

Through these efforts, Punjab is working to make its education system more transparent, efficient, and child-friendly.

In addition to building new ECE classrooms, the Punjab government is also shifting all schools and colleges to solar panels. This move aims to reduce energy costs and promote sustainable infrastructure across the education sector.
