Rising Concern Over Increasing Type 1 Diabetes Cases Among Children in Pakistan

Health experts in Pakistan have raised alarms over the growing number of children diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, calling for increased public awareness about prevention and proper management. Professor Muhammad Shahid, a consultant and chronologist, revealed that around 24,000 Pakistanis, mostly children, are currently living with this autoimmune disorder, which has no known cure.

Professor Shahid stressed the vital importance of early diagnosis, regular monitoring of blood sugar levels, and maintaining a balanced diet. He urged parents to be attentive to the symptoms and treatment options to ensure affected children can enjoy a better quality of life.

Awareness campaigns, he noted, could play a crucial role in improving health outcomes and minimizing the risks of severe complications. He also highlighted that timely and consistent insulin therapy is essential, warning that neglecting daily insulin injections could lead to dangerously high blood glucose levels.

Concluding on a hopeful note, Dr. Shahid emphasized that with proper care and adherence to treatment, children with Type 1 diabetes can lead healthy and active lives.
