NSC Meets Amid Rising Tensions Following India’s Allegations Over Kashmir Attack

Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership convened on Thursday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to assess the fallout from India’s reaction to the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The National Security Committee (NSC) meeting focused on evaluating the regional security environment and formulating Pakistan’s diplomatic and strategic response.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that a “comprehensive reply” would be issued in response to India’s accusations, which he criticised as baseless and lacking seriousness. He described India’s response to the tragic killing of 26 tourists as a “knee-jerk reaction,” stressing that no links to Pakistan had been established and that the Modi government was “scapegoating Pakistan for internal failures.”

Dar also reaffirmed that the Indus Waters Treaty cannot be suspended unilaterally by India, as it is an internationally mediated agreement under the World Bank’s oversight. The NSC meeting reportedly explored potential diplomatic and legal avenues in response to what Pakistani officials see as provocative rhetoric from New Delhi.

Sources close to the discussions revealed that Pakistan is preparing a strong diplomatic offensive to counter India’s accusations at the global level. Officials emphasized that previous claims made by India had lacked evidence, and this time is no different. The government plans to expose what it terms as “false propaganda” by the Modi administration on international platforms.

In a separate statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office expressed concern over the incident and extended condolences to the victims’ families. “We are concerned at the loss of tourists’ lives in an attack in Anantnag district of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir,” it said, calling for restraint and rejecting attempts to link Pakistan to the incident.
