New App ARK Protects Artists Intellectual Property from AI Encroachment

A new app, ARK, has been launched by screenwriter Ed Bennett-Coles and songwriter Jamie Hartman to help safeguard artists’ intellectual property in an era increasingly dominated by artificial intelligence (AI). This blockchain-based platform is designed to preserve the human creative process and ensure that artists retain full control over their work, offering protection against the growing use of AI-generated content.

The app was born from Bennett-Coles and Hartman’s concerns about the impact of AI on creative industries. “AI is coming in, swooping in and taking so many people’s jobs,” said Hartman, highlighting the duo’s worries about how technology might threaten artistic integrity. ARK’s key features include biometric verification, blockchain-backed timestamps, and non-disclosure agreements, which ensure secure documentation of ownership from the creation of a work to its final form.

ARK also addresses the value of the creative journey, not just the finished product. “The end product is just part of the process; it’s the journey that matters,” Bennett-Coles explained, emphasizing that the process of creation is just as significant as the final result.

The app is set for full launch in the summer of 2025 and has already secured funding from Claritas Capital and partnered with BMI, a leading performing rights organization. With its decentralised approach, ARK aims to give creators complete control over their intellectual property, free from corporate interference, ensuring fair credit and compensation for all contributors.
