Brazilian star Neymar has been ruled out of the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina due to a thigh injury, halting his anticipated return to the national team.
Neymar had been sidelined from Brazil’s squad for nearly a year and a half due to injuries but showed signs of resurgence after rejoining Santos in February. However, his comeback has been disrupted by persistent issues with his left thigh over the past two weeks.

Expressing his disappointment in an Instagram story, the striker wrote, “The return seemed so close, but unfortunately, I won’t be able to wear the most important jersey in the world for now.” He added that after discussions with the team, they agreed it was best to avoid risks and focus on a full recovery.
With Brazil currently in fifth place in South American World Cup qualifying, coach Dorival Junior had initially recalled Neymar, the country’s all-time top scorer with 79 goals. In his absence, Real Madrid striker Endrick will step in.
Brazil is set to face Colombia in Brasília on March 20 before taking on arch-rivals and defending champions Argentina in Buenos Aires on March 25.
Neymar, 33, recently ended a 14-month goal drought, scoring his first goal since returning to Santos, the club where he began his career.
