_SpaceX Starship Explodes After Launch, Causing Flight Delays and Debris Warnings

SpaceX’s Starship rocket exploded shortly after its eighth test flight, prompting airport closures and warnings of falling debris. The uncrewed mission, which marked another milestone for the company, suffered what SpaceX termed a “rapid unscheduled disassembly” during its ascent. No injuries were reported, but fiery debris was spotted falling over the Caribbean Sea, sparking concerns in the surrounding areas.

As a precaution, flights at Miami International Airport (MIA) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) were delayed. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued temporary flight restrictions, with some departures delayed due to debris over the Atlantic Ocean. The FAA later activated a “Debris Response Area,” briefly halting departures in affected zones before resuming normal operations.

The 123-meter Starship, intended for a one-hour flight, lost contact with ground control shortly after launch. While its Super Heavy booster returned safely to the launch pad, the spacecraft spiraled out of control, ultimately failing to release its mock satellites before plummeting back to Earth. The exact descent location remains unclear.

SpaceX acknowledged the failure on X, stating their team is working with safety officials to investigate and implement contingency plans. Despite the setback, SpaceX remains committed to the Starship program, with continued tests aimed at supporting future lunar and Martian missions.
