Lahore Police Officers Accused of Extorting Money from Local Call Centre

In a shocking incident, a group of police officers in Lahore has been accused of extorting money from a local call centre within the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines Police Station. According to the FIR filed by the victim, Amber Nawaz, the officers, in full uniform and armed, raided the call centre and coerced the staff into withdrawing Rs 300,000 (around USD 1,500) from an ATM. After receiving the cash, the officers reportedly stole Rs 200,000 worth of laptops and other valuables before fleeing the scene.

The Civil Lines Police swiftly launched an investigation and arrested five suspects, including two officers allegedly involved in the extortion. Legal proceedings have begun against the accused, and the police are working to ensure that justice is served in the case.

This incident follows another extortion case in Karachi last week, where police arrested two individuals, Tauseef and Umer, for attempting to extort Rs 0.8 million from the owner of Akhtar General Physician Hospital in Bilal Colony. The suspects sent an extortion note, along with a 9mm bullet, threatening the owner and a fellow doctor if their demands were not met. Umer, who worked as a dispenser at the hospital, provided insider information to Tauseef in exchange for 50% of the extortion money.

The police recovered the mobile phone and SIM card used in the Karachi extortion case, along with the threatening conversations between the suspects and their victims. Investigations are ongoing in both cities to uncover any additional links between the crimes.
