Nationwide Public Holiday Declared for Kashmir Solidarity Day

The federal government of Pakistan has announced February 5 as a public holiday to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day, reaffirming its support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The State Bank of Pakistan has confirmed its closure on this day, alongside all government offices, banks, and educational institutions, following an official notification.

The day will be marked by public rallies, seminars, and human chains across major cities like Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi, aimed at expressing solidarity with the Kashmiri people. Political leaders and activists are expected to lead demonstrations, amplifying Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir dispute. The holiday, which is observed annually, has become a symbol of the country’s commitment to advocating for the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

As per the 2025 federal holiday calendar issued earlier, February 5 has been confirmed as a public holiday nationwide. Provincial administrations, including Sindh, have echoed the federal decision, announcing the complete closure of government and semi-government institutions on this day.

The observance of Kashmir Day is expected to cause disruptions in some parts of the country, particularly with planned processions in key areas. Markets and schools will remain closed, and traffic might be affected as citizens participate in various events to highlight Pakistan’s stance on the Kashmir issue, a major point of contention between Islamabad and New Delhi.
