Malik Riaz, a prominent real estate magnate in Pakistan, has become the target of a serious threat following the receipt of an email demanding 50 bitcoins in ransom. The email also contained death threats directed at him and his family, warning of danger if the demand was not met. The email appeared to originate from Switzerland, though investigations suggest it was actually sent from within Pakistan.
On January 12, the email was sent, with a clear threat to the safety of Malik Riaz and his family, as well as references to his relatives living abroad in the Gulf and Western countries. The email implied that their lives would be at risk if the ransom was not paid.
