Netflix Announces Another Price Hike—Here’s What You’ll Pay Next Month

Netflix Announces Subscription Price Hikes Amid Growing Subscriber Base

Netflix, the world’s leading streaming platform, has unveiled plans to increase subscription fees in several countries, including the United States, Canada, Argentina, and Portugal.

The company explained that the price adjustments are aimed at reinvesting in the platform to enhance the overall user experience for its expanding global audience.

New Pricing Structure

In the United States, most subscription plans will see an increase.

  • The Standard Ad-Free Plan will rise from $15.49 to $17.99 per month.
  • The Ad-Supported Plan will increase by $1 to $7.99 per month.
  • The Premium Plan, which offers top-tier streaming quality and supports multiple devices, will go up by $2, reaching $24.99 per month.

Similar adjustments will be implemented in Canada, Portugal, and Argentina. Netflix stated in a press release, “We will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can reinvest to further improve Netflix.”

Subscriber Surge Fuels Growth

Despite the price hikes, Netflix continues to experience significant growth. In late 2024, nearly 19 million new subscribers joined the platform, bringing the global subscriber base to an impressive 300 million.

The growth was largely driven by highly anticipated releases, such as the second season of South Korea’s hit drama Squid Game, and live events like the boxing match between influencer Jake Paul and former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.

Additionally, Netflix has diversified its content with live event offerings, including expanded WWE programming and exclusive broadcasting rights for the 2027 and 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cups.

Introducing New Features

As part of its efforts to innovate and address password sharing, Netflix will roll out a new subscription option called the “Extra Member with Ads” plan. This plan allows ad-supported subscribers to add an additional member outside their household for an extra fee.

Future Outlook

Netflix remains confident in its market position despite the price increases. The company has shifted its focus from quarterly subscriber updates to achieving major milestones, highlighting that it still accounts for less than 10% of TV viewing in its active markets.

With a commitment to reinvesting in content and technology, Netflix aims to maintain its dominance as global streaming adoption continues to rise.
