Vietnam and Russia Sign Nuclear Energy Agreement During Prime Minister Mishustin’s Visit
HANOI: On Tuesday, Vietnam and Russia signed an agreement on nuclear energy, along with several other cooperation deals, during the visit of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to Hanoi.
Vietnam is looking to revive its nuclear energy programme, which had been suspended for years, in a bid to meet the growing demand for power to support its expanding industrial sector, a key driver of its economy.

The communist-led nation continues to maintain strong ties with Russia, along with Washington and Beijing. Russia has been a key supplier of military equipment to Vietnam, and Russian oil and gas companies are active in the South China Sea, including in areas disputed with China.
Rosatom, Russia’s state-run atomic energy corporation, and Vietnam’s state-owned power utility EVN signed a joint document outlining enhanced cooperation in the nuclear sector, although the specific details of the agreement remain confidential.
