Seven guests, including four Australians and one American, were hospitalized after consuming cocktails at a luxury hotel in Fiji, officials confirmed on Monday.
The individuals remain in stable condition, according to the Pacific island nation’s government. The incident occurred on Saturday night at the Warwick Fiji resort, a five-star property located on the Coral Coast, roughly 70 kilometers west of Suva.
Fiji’s health ministry reported that the affected guests experienced symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and neurological issues. “We are reassured that their condition this morning is stable, and we hope they continue to recover,” stated a joint release from the health and tourism ministries.

Initially treated at Sigatoka Hospital, the patients were later transferred to Lautoka Hospital for further medical care. However, Lautoka Hospital has declined to provide additional details regarding the situation.
The Warwick Fiji resort confirmed it had launched an internal investigation and is awaiting test results from health authorities. “While we do not yet have conclusive details, our priority remains the safety and well-being of our guests,” said a hotel spokesperson.
Fiji’s health and tourism ministries emphasized that such incidents are rare, noting that the country welcomes nearly one million tourists each year without significant safety concerns. “This is an isolated case, unlike anything we’ve seen in recent memory, and certainly unprecedented this year,” their statement read.
However, contradictory accounts surfaced when a Fiji police spokesperson reported that one patient had already been discharged from Sigatoka Hospital.
In a related incident last month, suspected methanol poisoning claimed the lives of two Danish citizens, an American, a Briton, and two Australians following a night out in Vang Vieng, Laos.
