Sindh Reduces Syllabus by 25% and Announces Exam & Holiday Schedule for Next Year

The Sindh Education Department has announced significant changes to the academic calendar and syllabus for the upcoming years, starting with a reduction of 25% in the syllabus for the current academic session (2024). This adjustment will affect students from grades one to twelve, as the annual exams for matric, intermediate, and classes one to eight in 2024 will be based on only 75% of the syllabus.

Additionally, the new academic year for 2025 will begin on April 1, marking a shift from the current practice of starting the academic session on August 1. This change will affect the entire province, with winter holidays revised to be observed from December 22 to December 31.

The decision was made by a sub-committee of the Sindh Education Department’s steering committee, with formal notification issued on December 5. The meeting included key educational stakeholders, such as the Secretary of College Education, private school representatives, and various board chairmen.

Key points of the decision include:

  • The syllabus for all classes will be reduced to 75% for the 2024 session, and this adjusted syllabus will be communicated to schools and educational boards by December 15, 2023.
  • The academic year for colleges will begin on August 1, 2025.
  • Matric exams are set to begin on March 15, 2025, with results to be announced by July 15, 2025.
  • Intermediate exams will start on April 15, 2025, with results expected by August 15, 2025.
  • Class 9 and 11 results will be announced within 60 days of the matric and intermediate results.
  • Summer holidays will be observed from June 1 to July 31, while winter holidays will be from December 22 to December 31.

This adjustment to the academic calendar and syllabus aims to streamline the education system, accommodate scholarship timelines, and protect the academic progress of students.
