The Khunjerab border, which serves as a key land link between Pakistan and China, has officially closed for all public traffic, trade, and tourism as of November 30, 2024. The closure, under a bilateral agreement, will remain in effect for the next four months until March 30, 2025.
This seasonal closure is due to the harsh winter conditions at the Khunjerab Pass, located at an altitude of around 15,500 feet above sea level. The region experiences heavy snowfall and extreme weather during the winter, making transportation and trade difficult.
