PayPal Global Outage Technical Issue Resolved

PayPal has resolved a global outage that affected thousands of users for nearly two hours, on Thursday. The issue, which began at 10:53 GMT and was resolved by 12:59 GMT, disrupted various PayPal services, including account withdrawals, its peer-to-peer payment service Venmo, online checkout, and cryptocurrency transactions.

During the outage, exchanges like Coinbase and Kraken also reported problems with PayPal transactions, including delays in deposits. The outage occurred on a day when Bitcoin reached over $98,000, influencing the broader cryptocurrency market.

Downdetector reported nearly 9,000 user complaints about PayPal transactions by 12:26 GMT, with many customers facing issues such as difficulty logging into their accounts and making payments. Users vented their frustrations on X (formerly Twitter), posting error messages and screenshots of problems.

In response, PayPal assured customers that the issue had been swiftly resolved, although the temporary disruption led to significant inconvenience for its large global user base. Founded in 1998, PayPal has become a major financial institution, with over 432 million active accounts reported as of September 30.
