IHC Issues Release Order for Imran Khan After Toshakhana Case Bail Approval

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been granted bail in the Toshakhana case by the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The decision was made after a special court, presided over by Judge Shah Rukh Arjumand, approved the necessary bail sureties. Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), will be released upon submitting two surety bonds worth Rs 1 million each, guaranteed by Tariq Noon and Raja Ghulam Sajjad. The court added that if Khan is not detained in any other case, he should be released.

This ruling follows the IHC’s approval of Khan’s bail request in the Toshakhana II case, which involves allegations that Khan mishandled and retained gifts from the official government repository, Toshakhana. Khan’s legal team insists that he followed the correct procedures for declaring and handling these gifts, though critics argue that the charges are politically motivated.

The case has become a focal point in the ongoing legal battles faced by Imran Khan. Despite this bail in the Toshakhana case, Khan was granted a five-day physical remand earlier this week in connection with another case registered at Rawalpindi’s New Town police station. The court, in this instance, had been asked to approve a 15-day remand but only granted five. Imran Khan will be interrogated at Adiala Jail, where his cell was designated as a police station during the investigation.

This latest development comes amid the backdrop of multiple legal cases involving Khan, including charges related to terrorism, arson, stone-throwing, and resisting the police. Imran Khan is scheduled to be presented in court again on November 26, where further steps in his investigation will be determined.

The ongoing legal proceedings highlight the complex and politically charged nature of the cases against the former Prime Minister.
