Sirish Subash, a ninth-grade student from Snellville, Georgia, has won the prestigious 3M Young Scientist Challenge for creating PestiSCAND, a handheld device that detects pesticide residues on produce. This innovative invention addresses the need for accessible and affordable ways to ensure food safety.

Using AI-based spectrophotometry, PestiSCAND analyzes light wavelengths to identify contaminants on fruits and vegetables with over 85% accuracy. This level of precision could make it a valuable tool for consumers and producers alike, helping to reduce exposure to harmful pesticides.
