Large Naswar Factory Closed in Jeddah; Foreign Nationals Arrested

Authorities in Jeddah have successfully dismantled a significant naswar production operation, seizing 217 kilograms of the illegal product during a major crackdown. The raid, conducted by the Jeddah municipality, uncovered that the naswar was intended for distribution in local markets.

Several foreign nationals were arrested in connection with the operation, as officials revealed that the individuals had converted their residence into a makeshift factory for producing naswar and flavored shisha. The seized naswar has since been destroyed, and the arrested suspects are now in police custody for further investigation.

This operation is part of a broader initiative to combat illegal production and protect public health, as naswar, a form of smokeless tobacco, has been linked to serious health risks. Studies indicate that it contains hazardous substances, including nicotine, heavy metals, and aflatoxins, all of which are known to elevate the risk of cancer.

The actions taken by the Jeddah municipality underscore growing concerns over the harmful effects of naswar and its widespread availability in the region.
