Islamabad Plans Complete Transition to Electric Buses

CDA Chairman Advocates for Transition to Electric Vehicles in Islamabad

On Tuesday, Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa convened a meeting to discuss comprehensive plans for transitioning commercial vehicles to electric power. He underscored the significance of this initiative, highlighting it as a crucial step toward creating a greener and more efficient public transportation system in Islamabad.

The proposed shift from traditional commercial buses to electric buses aims to modernize the city’s transport infrastructure and significantly reduce its carbon footprint.

To facilitate this transition, Chairman Randhawa directed officials to explore options for providing soft loans to commercial transport operators, making the switch to electric vehicles more accessible. He also emphasized the importance of introducing special incentives to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility.

Randhawa urged collaboration with International Financial Institutions (IFIs) to secure funding for the electric vehicle initiative, focusing on earning carbon credits and maximizing environmental benefits. The Ministry of Climate Change will also be consulted to ensure the initiative aligns with national climate objectives.

During the meeting, the need for upgrading charging infrastructure was highlighted as essential for the initiative’s success. Furthermore, it was decided that the CDA would engage with various institutions and organizations, including schools, colleges, and universities in Islamabad, to promote the shift to electric buses.

This proactive approach aims to foster a sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation system in the capital, contributing to the overall climate goals of the country.
