BATTAGRAM: In a heartbreaking incident, a young student from Shingli Bala village in Battagram district, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, took his own life on March 14 after allegedly being sexually assaulted and blackmailed by two men. The victim, referred to as A*, was an orphan, and police investigations reveal that he had been blackmailed following the assault, which the perpetrators filmed.
Both suspects have been apprehended by the authorities, with one already confessing to the crime, according to DPO Battagram Babar Qasrani and SSP Investigation Sardar Khan. The assault reportedly occurred approximately five months ago, and the investigation into the case has brought significant attention to the issue of sexual abuse and blackmail in the area.

The victim’s family expressed gratitude towards the police for their thorough investigation, noting that the case has moved forward with respect to the evidence presented. In a video statement, they emphasized the importance of shedding light on social injustices to prevent such tragedies in the future, adding that cooperation with law enforcement is essential for effective investigations.
While the police initially considered the case a suicide, they later determined that blackmail involving incriminating images was a key factor leading to the victim’s death. The DPO expressed sorrow for the tragic incident, reaffirming the police’s commitment to pursuing justice. The suspects are being prosecuted following guidance from the legal department, marking a step towards accountability for this deeply saddening event.
