The Islamabad Police’s e-challan system has made a significant impact on enforcing traffic laws, leading to a notable reduction in fatal accidents and other traffic violations.
In September alone, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) issued 1,436 e-challan tickets, contributing to a total of over 274,000 tickets issued to date for various traffic violations. This implementation aligns with international standards, ensuring strict adherence to traffic laws in the federal capital.
Utilizing data from the linked database of the Excise and Taxation department, legal action is being taken against violators. They receive e-challan notifications directly on their mobile numbers, making the system more efficient and transparent. Additionally, the issued challan tickets are sent directly to the vehicle and motorcycle owners’ homes.

If fines are not paid within the specified time frame, a copy of the challan is affixed to the vehicle’s master file at the Excise and Taxation office. Until the fine is settled, the vehicle or motorcycle cannot be transferred to another person’s name.
To facilitate citizens in paying fines, easy payment options such as mobile wallets and bank account payments have been introduced.
DG Safe City, Shakir Hussain Dawar, stated that the Safe City E-Challan system is yielding positive results. Effective monitoring through this system has significantly decreased fatal accidents and other traffic violations.
Dawar further noted that the e-challan system, which utilizes Safe City’s cameras, is continuously improved for better effectiveness. The primary goal of this system is to leverage modern technology to prevent accidents and ensure strict compliance with traffic laws.
