Funds to Address Damage from Heavy Rains and Enhance City Infrastructure
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has announced a significant allocation of Rs. 1.5 billion for the repair and restoration of Karachi’s infrastructure, which has been severely affected by recent heavy rains.

Key Points from the High-Level Meeting
- Infrastructure Repair: During a high-level meeting, Chief Minister Shah expressed serious concerns about the quality of infrastructure built post-2022. He has ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the construction practices to ensure accountability for substandard work.
- Extent of Damage: Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab reported that over 17.8 million square feet of roads in several districts, including South, East, West, and Korangi, have been damaged. Approximately 120 roads, bridges, and underpasses require immediate resurfacing and repair.
- New Projects: In addition to the emergency repair funds, the Chief Minister has approved six new projects under the CLICK program. These projects will focus on constructing flyovers and roads across different parts of the city to improve infrastructure and mitigate future damage during rainy seasons.
- Damage in Other Divisions: Shah was also briefed on extensive damage in Hyderabad and Sukkur divisions, with over 3,500 kilometers of roads affected in Hyderabad alone. Detailed surveys will be conducted to assess the full extent of the damage, and repair work is expected to commence soon.
Chief Minister Shah emphasized that Karachi’s infrastructure cannot accept substandard work, and strict action will be taken against those responsible for failing to meet required standards. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure the city’s infrastructure is resilient and well-maintained, especially in the face of extreme weather conditions.
