The helicopter crash that resulted in the death of Iran’s late President Ebrahim Raisi was primarily caused by adverse weather conditions, including thick fog, according to the final investigation report cited by Iran’s state TV on Sunday.
Ebrahim Raisi, a hardliner who was considered a potential successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, died in the crash in May, which occurred in a mountainous region near the Azerbaijan border.

The final report, issued by a high committee tasked by Iran’s military to investigate the incident, concluded that the thick fog in the area was the main factor leading to the helicopter’s collision with the mountain.
A preliminary report from May had already indicated that there was no evidence of foul play or an attack involved in the crash.
