As the excitement of cricket sweeps through the nation with the commencement of the ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on February 17, fresh records are being established, and emerging talent is leaving a mark.

During the second match of the PSL’s ninth season between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday, Babar Azam, the captain of Peshawar Zalmi, etched his name in the record books. The right-handed batsman achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first player to amass 3,000 runs in the PSL. Notably, none of his counterparts have yet reached the 2,500-run mark.

While chasing a formidable target of 207 runs, Babar showcased his exceptional skills, scoring a brisk 29-ball half-century. Despite his impressive performance, contributing 68 runs, Zalmi fell short in their pursuit of the 207-run target set by the Gladiators, rendering Babar Azam’s brilliant knock in vain.

Babar Azam’s extraordinary achievement unfolded over 80 innings, amassing a total of 3,004 runs at an impressive average of 44.83. His batting prowess is evident in his record, which includes 29 half-centuries and a century.

The updated list of players with the most runs in PSL now stands as follows:
1. Babar Azam: 3004 runs
2. Fakhar Zaman: 2381 runs
3. Shoaib Malik: 2082 runs

This milestone not only solidifies Babar Azam’s position as one of the premier batsmen in PSL history but also adds to the excitement and competitiveness of the ongoing season. The PSL continues to be a platform for cricketers to showcase their skills and set new benchmarks in the world of T20 cricket.
