This development followed previous rumors suggesting that Lt. General Shahid Imtiaz would replace Gen Anjum as the head of the top intelligence agency. Gen. Nadeem Anjum will continue in his role as ISI chief until further notice, with a summary approving the extension on September 14. He is now the third ISI Director-General, following Akhtar Abdur Rehman and Shuja Pasha, to have his tenure extended.

Gen. Nadeem Anjum assumed the position of ISI chief in November 2021, succeeding Faiz Hameed. The decision to retain Gen Anjum as ISI chief was influenced by the agency’s crucial role in the fight against terrorism and its recent efforts to combat smuggling along the Iran and Afghanistan border, among other key tasks. Gen. Nadeem is highly experienced and has held various command, staff, and instructional assignments during his career.
He is a graduate of several prestigious military institutions and holds degrees from institutions in the UK, the USA, and Pakistan. He has served as an instructor at various military academies and held the position of Commandant of the Staff College, Quetta. His last assignment before becoming ISI chief was Commander 5 Corps, Sindh, and he has previously served as the Inspector General of the Balochistan Frontier Corps (North).[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
