Shoaib Hashmi, a legendary writer, died at the age of 84 in Lahore.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Hashmi, a well-known theatre character, was highly recognised for his important contributions to Pakistan Television (PTV) with famous programmes such as Akkar Bakkar, Sach Gupp, and Taal Matol. Furthermore, the acclaimed dramatist had an impressive intellectual background, having earned a master’s degree in economics from Government College Lahore (GCL) and an MSc degree from the prestigious London School of Economics.

He also studied drama at the famed Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London to deepen his interest for the performing arts. Hashmi’s talent and perseverance were recognised with awards like as the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz and the prestigious President’s Award for Performance Pride.

Hashmi was the son-in-law of the great poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz, as well as the husband of Salima Hashmi. His son and daughter survive him. Hashmi charmed audiences with his engaging and funny performances, capturing the attention of people around him at all times.

His humble, kind, and unpretentious manner was one of his most endearing characteristics. Nonetheless, his diverse personality, as communicated through multiple media platforms, became his trademark.
