The IT Ministry has informed the National Assembly that engineers with specialized IC design skills can earn Rs. 150,000 or more each month.
The information was shared through a written response in the National Assembly. It highlighted government efforts to develop advanced technology skills among young engineers.
The initiative focuses on areas linked to Pakistan’s growing semiconductor industry. These areas include Integrated Circuit (IC) design and verification.
The government-supported training programme was funded by Ignite, the National Technology Fund. Ignite operates under the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication.
The programme was implemented by the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (FAST-NUCES). It aimed to provide engineers with practical skills needed by the technology industry.
A total of 30 engineers completed the specialized training. The group included seven women from different parts of Pakistan.
Participants were selected from 20 districts across the country. The programme provided training in several advanced areas of chip development.
These areas included IC design, VLSI verification and System-on-Chip (SoC) architecture. Trainees also learned to use industry-standard design tools.
The programme also introduced participants to chip tapeout and fabrication processes. These skills can help engineers understand different stages of semiconductor development.
The training has also produced employment opportunities for many participants. According to the IT Ministry, 23 of the 30 trained engineers have secured jobs.
The engineers were hired within Pakistan’s semiconductor industry. Their employment highlights the demand for professionals with specialized technical knowledge.
The remaining seven participants decided to continue their education. They opted to pursue master’s degrees for further specialization.
The government considers skilled professionals important for developing Pakistan’s semiconductor sector. The industry requires engineers with advanced knowledge of chip design and verification.
According to information provided by Ignite, fresh professionals with these skills can earn around Rs. 150,000 or more per month.
The IT Ministry said such initiatives can help create a stronger pool of skilled engineers. They can also support employment opportunities for young technology professionals.
