The Lahore Traffic Police have launched a major crackdown against vehicles with large amounts of unpaid e-challan fines.
Lahore Chief Traffic Officer Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi ordered teams to target the top 100 defaulter vehicles. Traffic police will track these vehicles with assistance from Safe City authorities.
The crackdown has already resulted in the arrest of a pickup driver. Police said the driver was among the top 10 e-challan defaulters.
According to traffic officials, the driver had committed 80 traffic violations. These violations resulted in fines exceeding Rs. 410,000.
Police said the driver became aware of his outstanding fines. He allegedly installed a fake number plate on the vehicle afterward.
However, the vehicle reportedly continued violating traffic laws after the fake plate was installed. Police said another Rs. 21,000 in e-challans was issued against the fake registration number.
The driver was later arrested along with the vehicle. Police also registered a case against him at Nawan Kot police station.
Authorities said the driver will be required to pay the outstanding fines. The case is part of wider enforcement against motorists with repeated traffic violations.
Chief Traffic Officer Shirazi has directed e-challan squads to intensify their operations. The squads have received information about the top 100 vehicles with unpaid fines.
