Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered authorities to strengthen the Suthra Punjab cleanliness program across the province. She issued the directions during a meeting focused on improving sanitation and waste management. The chief minister directed officials to improve cleanliness in housing societies, residential areas, roads and public spaces.
She called for better sanitation services in both cooperative and private housing societies. Authorities were also instructed to introduce uniform dustbins and garbage bags in commercial areas. The chief minister ordered officials to establish fixed schedules for waste collection and disposal. These measures aim to improve waste management and maintain cleaner public areas.
Maryam Nawaz also directed sanitation teams to wash and clean major roads every day. She ordered teams to begin road washing and cleaning at 5 a.m. Officials were also told to ensure regular cleaning of streets and residential neighborhoods. The chief minister ordered authorities to start cleaning vacant plots across the province.
She also called for door-to-door waste collection to improve services in residential areas. The directions cover several important aspects of sanitation and waste removal. The chief minister also addressed the timely payment of salaries to Suthra Punjab workers. She ordered that sanitation workers receive their salaries by the fifth day of every month.
Officials were told to take immediate action if salary payments are delayed. The chief minister also instructed authorities to clear outstanding payments owed to contractors. She stressed that sanitation workers and contractors should receive their payments without unnecessary delays.
The cleanliness program will also focus on public institutions and recreational areas. Authorities were directed to improve sanitation around schools, colleges and universities. Hospitals, parks and green belts will also receive greater attention under the latest instructions.
Officials were further ordered to remove waste from areas surrounding railway tracks. They were also directed to ensure timely cleaning of city entry and exit points. The chief minister called for stronger sanitation measures at fruit and vegetable markets. These markets will receive special attention because of their regular waste generation.
Maryam Nawaz also ordered the preparation of standard operating procedures for sanitation services. These procedures will be used to assess the performance of cleanliness teams and contractors. The chief minister also issued instructions about violations by contractors.
Contractors will be given 24 hours to correct violations before authorities impose fines. She emphasized that the main purpose of the program should remain cleanliness. According to her instructions, penalties should not become the primary focus of the program.
The latest measures are aimed at improving sanitation standards across Punjab. Authorities will now be expected to monitor cleaning activities more closely. They must also ensure that waste collection schedules are followed consistently.
